HTML is ocmmonly known as the language of the web, but now days it's being supplanted by more advanced markup languages.
HTML has been replaced by XHTML and may soon be replaced by HTML ver.5 (editor's note: It has).
However standing in the wings and ready to step in is an even bigger language, namely XML.
